Pisces

As we wind down to the end of the zodiacal cycle we find the mutable water of Pisces waiting there. Pisces prepares us for spring and helps us say goodbye to winter. When the already fluid and quite changeable water is put in a mutable modality, it creates a myriad of possibilities; perhaps this is why Pisces characteristics are so hard to pin down.

Pisces is like a sponge, a psychic sponge, absorbing all that is around them. They see the world almost like it was a surreal movie, or a video game with interactive characters that have real problems. They have the gift of seeing life as a metaphor; one big reflection, a classic way of living the philosophy “the inner reflects the outer.” For example, a Pisces may look out at the weather and make a decision about buying a car based on that alone. Their process works for them but would drive many an Air sign mad.

Pisces natives feel you, its automatic and unconscious, in fact, not much of their process is conscious. A Pisces individual can enter a bus feeling perfectly fine and leave the bus with a headache and a low level anxiety and have no idea why. That’s another “problem” with Pisces; they are all too willing to accept what they are dealt when in reality it is very likely that the headache and anxiety isn’t even theirs but literally “picked up” from other passengers on the bus. It’s a gift and a curse, this ability to absorb, to feel the energies around you. It’s what makes them healers when it’s conscious and constantly sick when it isn’t.

Who you meet, when you meet a Pisces, depends on a myriad of factors each with no common denominator but definitely influenced by things like; who they are living with, what their thoughts are when they awaken, what television show they watched the night before, …ad infinitum. All water signs change according to their surroundings but none of them are as fluid about it as Pisces. They are comfortable with themselves and because they feel things on a much different frequency they are prone to have compassion for a large and diverse group of people. If you have ever been to a Pisces party you can witness their eclectic tastes first hand. The homeless man on the street where they live may be there along with the mayor, democrats, republicans, atheists, or Unabombers; it doesn’t matter because Pisces people guide their lives with their feelings. They enter your reality effortlessly, making it theirs for the time they are with you.

The surreal life of Pisces is often started at birth. There is a close tie to the mother who often finds the connection with the child to be deep. The child has a reciprocal bond with the mother and will feel deeply all of the mother’s inner feelings of isolation, insecurity, and unhappiness and conversely her joys, celebrations and intimacies. There is a constant battle inside of the Pisces individual to stay connected with the self, but the fluidity that exists within them can be overwhelming and they compensate by turning on the mental mind and identifying with thoughts just to avoid the chaos inside of them. Of course, this kind of denial will backfire and eventually the native will find themselves drawn to an individual or circumstance that pulls them into their feelings again and often not in a friendly way.

On a deep level the Pisces native lives with 2 opposite parts of themselves (all mutable signs have a duality) one side feels divine and connected to all that is holy and the other side feels conniving, mean and connected to all that is bad. The symbol of the yin and yang symbolizes the opposing yet similar forces at work inside this complex sign, both are needed to exist. Regardless of their identification with those components, they feel the battle inside and must make an effort every day to flex the muscle of discipline so they can create appropriate boundaries for themselves. The Pisces natives have difficulty with boundaries because they can so easily float into your reality and see life from your window without ever knowing they were doing it. Without a boundary or a center they have no way to know where their home is.

The inner beauty of a Pisces comes from their sympathetic nature, open heart, and their belief in the goodness of others. The Fish adores that person who can help complete them – a yin to their yang, that person who can draw them out and gently bring them down to a safe place on Earth – is a keeper. Pisceans also crave a comfort level, a certain sense of security which says “hey, you’re okay” and helps them to relax and trust.

Mysterious and alluring individuals, most Pisces are extremely talented, but even though they are gifted in many ways, they still manage to spend most of their lives battling “confusing” conditions. Pisces is the sign symbolised by the image of two fish. Their symbol depicts one fish heading upward, the other pulling downward. This mirrors how Pisceans are frequently torn between two pathways in life, or actually do live two very different existences at the same time.

The number 2, is a very powerful number for them. This zodiac sign is acknowledged as being the Saint and the Sinner rolled into one; the trendsetter of fashion or art, the lost soul, the philosopher and the psychotic and the visionary. As a credit to them, considering their many vulnerable characteristics; Pisceans are incredibly adaptable and resilient. They are to be found leading the field in many diverse areas of life and many Pisces can be found represented amongst top business millionaires. On the other side of the coin, prisons, reform schools and all kinds of institutions statistically hold a high number of Pisceans too.

Pisces people seldom perceive whatever is going on around them in its true light. They see life instead as they want to see it, coloring their view of the world in hues and tones far removed from its true reflection. No wonder this is the sign of both miracles and disillusionment. If you are a Pisces, be warned your emotions are a weak spot. You are the zodiac’s most sensitive sign, so you need to take extra special care of yourself. Nobody can beat you up, as much as you can beat yourself up within your own mind. In your purest form you are psychic, visionary and a guiding light to all who know you. But, in your “out of tune” state, you become depressed, obsessive and confused.

Symbolic Meanings

  • Neptune: The Neptune symbol is about the only thing straight-forward about the subject of Neptune. The cross at the lower end of the symbol is symbolic of matter, the root of things – the crux of nature. That cross is a stabilizer amongst the potentially erratic energies Neptune can represent. The three pronged pitchfork portion on top of the Neptune symbol represents a trident, commonly thought to represent Neptune, the god of the waters (Poseidon in Greek if you prefer). Not so commonly known is the trident of the Neptune symbol also represents the threefold essences of nature. Empirically speaking this threefold essence is comprised of: Becoming, Being, Passing away. Other threefold meanings offered by the Neptune symbol trident include: Birth, Life, Death, Mind, Body, Spirit, Past, Present, Future, Dreams,Intuition, Psychic ability, Invention, Magic, Perception, Psychology, Philosophy, Esotericism,Occult, Imagination, Mysticism, Emotion, Shadow/hidden side of life.
  • Water: The element water holds different symbolic connection for different signs. In Pisces case, water is symbolic of this sign’s ability to dive deep under the currents of emotion and intuition. Pisces has a uncanny ability to submerge themselves beneath the surface of everyday, common life. When they swim under that surface, they discover the foundations that makes stuff work. Like ulterior motives in others, secret desires, reasons for behavior. But that’s not all, they also see deeply into the spirit world. In essence, Pisces’ ability to go deep allows them to peel back the layers of common reality – exposing them to a whole new world of existence. Water also holds a theme of healing for Pisces. By their nature, most Pisces are genuinely compassionate, and have an inherent need to help those in need. Their governing element of water allows them to flow in people and places to offer cleansing, healing energy.
  • Fish: Consider the murky depths of the ocean – we never know quite what to expect there. Even seasoned oceanic explorers are still awed by their findings from the deep. Water holds endless mystery to us – it represents that which is certainly there, but cannot be seen. Water has also been known to be a womb symbol and as such, an emblem of birth, fertility and woman-ness. This association comes from many ancient flood myths, and the “from water springs life” concept.
  • Wolf: To understand totem wolf symbols, one must first understand the heart of the Wolf. This takes time because the Wolf has had to endure many false stereotypes, misconceptions and misunderstandings. Not at all the picture of ferocity or terror, the Wolf is a creature with a high sense of loyalty and strength. Another misconception is that of the “lone wolf.” To the contrary, the Wolf is actually a social creature, friendly, and gregarious with its counterparts. The Wolf is an incredible communicator. By using touch, body movements, the wolf makes his point understood. Those with totem wolf symbols are of the same inclination – they are expressive both vocally and physically. Those who have the wolf as their totem animal are naturally eloquent in speech, and also have knack for creative writing. Common Wolf Meanings—Loyalty, Cunning, Generosity, Intelligence, Friendliness, Compassionate, Communication. Totem wolf symbols belong to those who truly understand the depth of passion that belong to this noble creature. The Wolf is a representative of deep faith, and profound understanding. Further, the Wolf possess a high intellect, and have been observed using strategies about hunting, habitat and migration.
  • “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.”One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. “This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.“”Which wolf will win?“The old chief simply replied, ”The one you feed.“ (Source)

  • The Dog: Loyalty, the Senses, Communication, Friendship, Home. Additionally, Dog spirit always reminds you to maintain your integrity and faithfulness with all the gentle souls that share your life, both human and animal. This bit of animal medicine is true for self too – you cannot be a good friend to others without having the same relationship with yourself. As a spiritual companion Dog builds an intense sense of devotion with all your relations. Should your proverbial tribe come into times of trouble, Dog spirit will not run with his tail between his legs but stand firm by your side. The dog is a symbol of our tamed mind which is loyal to our bidding. The wolf is a symbol of our primal urges and bears its teeth at our every attempt to be conventional. Neither beast is all bad nor all good – but they both war with each other in our minds. Hence each is on either side of our path. One yapping at us to “do the right thing” the other growling at us to “break out and go wild.” All the while the Moon has her own ideas about what we should be doing. The key here is to tap into our inner wisdom and gain the ground by our own internal navigational faith system.
