Sagittarius: Why Amy Lee Is the Older Sister You’ve Always Wanted

Amy Lee’s Chart
December 13, 1981, 6: 50 pm in Riverside, Californina (USA)
Dominant Planets: Moon, IC, Cancer, Fire, Water, and Mutable

♐🔆 Sagittarius Sun & Mercury and Leo Moon ♌☾

“The Hunter is my name. Yes I am the Hunter”

– ‘Push the Button.’ Aftermath (2011)

I knew I’d do a reading on Amy Lee when I discovered we knew her birth time. I heard them on VH1 when I was eight when I saw her falling in the ‘Bring Me to Life’ music video. And although I prefer Amy’s solo work more there’s a space in my musical heart for Evanescence. Especially since me and my best friends have an Evanescence song as our friendship song. So here is my reading of the beautiful Amy Lynn (nee lee) Hartzler.

Whenever the Mutable signs are in the sixth house or the MC the native loves work—they can become workaholics—and needs to find a balance between work and life. However the Mutable signs here want flexibility with their work. Amy Lee has the ninth sign in the sixth house meaning she’ll find happiness in work (Evanescence and her solo career) and when she focuses on herself to do it. The Evanescence studio albums have at least three years between them. Fallen (2003), the Open Door (2006), and Evanescence (2011). It’s 2017 and we’re just getting some new Evanescence music. Now Amy has Sagittarius as her dominant sign however one of her Sagittarian planets in Mercury. Mercury here is similar to having a Pisces Mercury, Sagittarius is wanderlust, it is the Philosopher and is why it does well in Jupiter. It focuses on the broad ranging topics because it wants to understand life around them but it doesn’t do well with the micro level. Mercury anywhere wants to get a message across and in Virgo and Gemini it does this well because their words are concise, practically perfect in every way. The only way a Sagittarius un-aspected Mercury can have that Virgo Mercury clarity is if it takes the long way around. They have the equation and wok backwards to get the beginning pieces. This is why Sagittarius/Pisces Mercurys use the arts and music mediums; they can see their work, see if it’s what they mean and want to say, then tweak it to make their words understandable to their audience. “Music is therapy for me. It’s my outlet for every negative thing I’ve ever been through. It lets me turn something bad into something beautiful.”

Sagittarius’s ruling planet is Jupiter which in Amy’s chart lives in Scorpio in the IC (Fourth House). Amy makes her luck, comes to her philosophy by admitting the harsh bullshit of life. They need/want to admit the truth that people ignore, this is Scorpio and it’s bringing its bringing its love of truth and enhancing it, multiplying it’s power since it’s in Jupiter, Sagittarius’ Lord. But this lord is in the IC meaning whenever there’s something Scorpion related here you tend to see something fucked up in the family or childhood life. Amy lost her little sister to an unknown illness and suffered a subsequent depression because of it (by the way I really love how she took a more natural route to deal with Depression and not go toward the medication immediately).

With Moon in Leo, the native needs warmth in their life and as a child they were typically over dramatic. Amy has said that she would “play dead” or other extremes and become upset if her mother didn’t notice her. In interviews she said she even tried to copy Mozart by trying to play under the piano. Overall Leo moons cannot escape the need, the necessity to be in the front of the situation.  When her younger brother was diagnosed with Epilepsy Amy wound up speaking for acknowledgement and acceptance for those who have it. (This made me like her even more.) These Lunar people also need to know that they will be appreciated by their loved ones and in turn that pride manifests outward. They are often very devoted to the family they create on their own. Her son’s name is Jack Lyon/Lion Hartlzer. We can see the influence Amy’s loves. The bold dramatics of Jack Skellington (“And since I am dead/I can take off my head/and recite Shakespearean quotation”). The Lion symbolism of pride in her little boy’s middle name reminding us Leo IS the lion and a family of lions are called a pride/coalition. Amy’s married name Hartlzer we can take as an astrological reference to the big hearts Sagittarius and Leos have. “I love the creative process. That’s always been the closest thing to my heart, creating something.”

“Forget this life

Come with me

Don’t look back you’re safe now”

–           Anywhere. Origins.

Venus Aquarius & Virgo Mars

“I try to be feminist in, like, I love myself and I don’t need someone else’s approval.”

Aquarius and Virgo don’t really want to be placed in these planets yet they don’t mind it either. A Virgo Mars isn’t fallen like it would be in Venus but it’s equally picky as if it is in Venus. I go into this Mars placement more in this post but all you need to know is that once a Virgo Mars is focused on something they’ll go full force on it and can rival Capricorn Mars in this case. Venus in Aquarius is an interesting placement because what is Venus; it’s love. Aquarius is Love and wants to help everyone and take its knowledge and power to make everything better. In a romantic relationship, this Venus/Mars combination wants to get to know their partner before making any commitment. Aquarius on its own would be more detached and Virgo would analyzes the other person to death becoming very boring. Yet together we see a person who wants to understand someone as much as their other half does. We see this in her relationship with her husband. If you were a 90s kid you probably tried to learn everything about ‘Bring Me to Life’ and what Amy said later on was that it was about her meeting Josh at the time. Saying at that time in her life she wasn’t in the best of relationships, not even admitting it to herself and when this man approached her and asked if she was alright, she wondered how he could KNOW thinking he might’ve been a clairvoyant. (‘How can you see into my eyes like open doors/ Leading you down into my soul where I’ve become so numb?’) Later she found out that he was a therapist. So it makes sense she’d gravitate to a man who could delve deep into people and we see her wanting this in the song ‘Good Enough’ which was dedicated to her husband. (‘’Cause I can’t hold on to anything this good enough. / Am I good enough for you to love me too?’)

Cancer Rising & Aries MC

For the longest time people have thought she was a Libra Rising, since Cancer & Libra Risings get along with everyone and crave comfort and beauty in their surroundings. Both are cardinal signs who are very goal oriented but as an astrologer we see the Cancer Ascendant clues shine through more. Cancer Ascendants tend to be the type of person who’ve always dreamed of starting their own family. Even during the Fallen Era Amy has said she’s always wanted marriage and to become a mother. We also see these Cancer dominant people very close to their own side of their family. In a recent interview with Wikipedia she said that she was so proud that her father was getting himself out there in the public, she was also proud that her younger sister started her own band called Solstice. We also see this devotion in Evanescence’s studio albums. ‘Hello,’ ‘Like You,’ and the ‘Other Side’ are all about her little sister who died in childhood. Her bandmates, Terry for example, became an honorary Uncle to her son. Ben Moody, years after his dismissal actually congratulated her on her marriage. And it’s this watery depth that makes fans want to get to know her and have that intimacy, that protection with her. “I know how it feels to be completely alone and helpless, and the last thing you want to hear in that situation is, ‘It’s going to be OK.’ “The only thing that seems to really help is that someone else who has felt that low expressing those feelings to you.”

“Take my hand, ease the past forever

My love is You, my love you are”

– Love Exists (2017). Amy Lee/Evanescence

Her Cancer AC leads me to talk about her Aries MC. Her midheaven explains a lot about her reputation of being a bitch early on in her career. Evanescence went through many members in fact Amy had this to say about Evanescence, “I am Evanescence. I am the only original member. I have basically hired the band. Evanescence has become me. It is mine and it’s exactly how I want it to be.” Cardinal MC always know how they want others to perceive them. The tenth house is our reputation and what we want to be in our careers, not the career itself—that’s sixth house. We can see this when Amy said that her band isn’t a Christian Rock band—though she did/does consider herself Christian and Evanescence began with her and Ben meeting at a Christian summer camp—Evanescence is just a band that sometimes tackle spiritual principles. She has a specific view and a passion for her music that it’ll be hard for others to change her or for her to see others points of view on it. We saw this a lot at the end of the Fallen era fortunately we see that Amy has grown away from this, and now we have Jen Majura (formerly from Equilibrium). Lyrically we see this in her song ‘What You Want.’

“Do what you, what you want
If you have a dream for better
Do what you, what you want
‘til you don’t want it anymore (remember who you really are)”

– What You Want. Evanescence (2011). Evanescence (Band)

Amy Lee has an over dominance of Fire and Water signs in her chart. Part of this has to do with her generational planets but I haven’t seen a current musician with this much fire, this much water since Ville Valo or H.I.M. Bring Me to Life & My Heart is Broken are the only videos without these elements. It’s also easier to name Evanescence songs that have these elements than to name songs that don’t. This over water element does make her more emotional but it does explain her love to incorporate new and different elements to her work. Amy has said she loves Electronica music and we hear this in songs such as ‘Even in Death’, ‘Snow White Queen’, ‘Push the Button.’ Even her cover of Le’ Amore Existe (Love Exists) takes the Italian to English cover and gives it a more Electronic Rock sound than solely Pop. This versatility is also seen in Amy learning how to play the Harp after years of being solely a pianist. (I really want to hear an instrumental collaboration with her and Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish.) The fire in her chart makes Amy very active. ‘My Heart is Broken’ is about her imagining herself in the shows of someone being trapped as a human trafficked victim. She and her husband even supported an organization who fought against it. She even spoke out against the act of self-mutilation (specifically cutting). This also pairs well with her Aquarius Venus wanting to help the masses. We saw this in ‘Everybody’s Fool’ where she wrote the song when her sister was, at the time, emulating these fake as celebrities. It’s these qualities that make her feel like everybody’s sister.

“You’re not alone,
No matter what they told you, you’re not alone.
I’ll be right beside you forevermore.

I long to be like you, sis,
Lie cold in the ground like you did.
There’s room inside for two and I’m not grieving for you.

I’m coming for you.”

– ‘Like You.’ The Open Door (2006). Evanescence
